My parents finally broke away from Virginia and took time to visit over the holiday weekend. We celebrated anniversaries and birthdays - their anniversary happens to be the exact date of Rob's birthday.
It was a weekend packed of both relaxation and fun. We spent the afternoon and evening in Charleston where we stopped by Jack's Cosmic Dogs, a famous hot dog joint. Then we just walked the town visiting the Old Slave Market and just about every art gallery. I wish I were more gifted with a paint brush.
Stopped by baked, an supremely awesome coffee and bakery shop.
Sunday we went to the beach where I did some work on the crowded sand in Surfside. Then Habibi's for Lebanese food before the baseball game. Not exactly American, to eat Lebanese food on the Fourth of July, but it was delicious. Besides, we capped the night off with baseball and there's nothing quite as patriotic as a baseball game. Even with the home team loses, which they did 10-4.
The rents were set to leave late in the afternoon on Monday, but we headed to a local winery even though we were worried for time. La Belle Amie sits about half an hour north of our home and after one visit it is already one of my favorite places around here.
The chemist who makes the wine did the wine tasting for us, teaching us all about the grapes and the process and guided us through each sample. Tasted some of the best wines I've ever had and Rob and I are both excited for the holidays where we can serve mulled wine.
Now, we have seven bottles to drink by the end of summer. Though, with the weather here, we've really got until the end of September.
